Prophet Badu Kobi Marriage Collapsing?

BY Daniel Bampoe

The marital troubles surrounding Ghanaian preacher Emmanuel Badu Kobi have taken a dramatic legal turn after his wife, Gloria Kobi, secured a court order preserving several properties believed to have been jointly acquired during their marriage.

The order, issued by the Tema High Court, comes amid growing public speculation over reports that the founder of Glorious Wave Church International intends to sell or relocate his church auditorium following alleged financial difficulties.

Court documents sighted in Suit No. GA/TM/HCG/ES/927/2026 show that Gloria Kobi filed an application on May 7, 2026, seeking an interim preservation order over what she described as “joint matrimonial properties” pending the final determination of the case.

The application was granted by the High Court presided over by Justice Patricia Quansah on May 18, 2026, after the court noted that there was no affidavit in opposition filed by the respondent, Prophet Badu Kobi.

According to the order, the court directed that several assets linked to the couple be preserved until the substantive case is concluded.

The listed properties include the land and premises housing the Glorious Wave Church International at Sakumono, which also serves as the matrimonial home, four additional houses, two self-contained apartments, a five-bedroom house located at East Legon, interests in a partnership oil company, several vehicles and other assets reportedly acquired during the marriage.

However the case was silent on a possible divorce between the couple.

The legal move follows widespread reports that Prophet Badu Kobi was planning to dispose of the church property, sparking concerns among church members and observers over the future of the ministry.

However, the outspoken preacher has publicly denied claims that he is selling the church because of financial collapse.

According to him, the church is only being relocated based on what he describes as divine instruction from God.

Despite rejecting suggestions of bankruptcy, the prophet has openly admitted in recent sermons and public remarks that he has been battling serious financial challenges.

He disclosed that he had sold some of his vehicles in order to settle debts, a revelation that intensified public debate over the actual state of his finances.

The controversy surrounding Badu Kobi has been amplified in recent months following criticism over some of his failed football prophecies in 2026.

Addressing the backlash, the preacher argued that betting activities by some followers distorted the spiritual purpose of prophecy, insisting that “God’s word cannot be used for betting.”

The founder of Glorious Wave Church has also remained consistent in his controversial teachings on wealth and Christianity, repeatedly arguing that pastors must be financially successful in order to effectively bless their congregants.

According to him, “a poor pastor only transfers poverty to church members,” a statement that has often generated fierce reactions within the religious community.

While supporters of the prophet insist the relocation of the church is purely spiritual, critics and social commentators believe the reported financial strain may be the real motivation behind the move.
