Award-winning Ghanaian singer Kuami Eugene has opened up about his long-term ambitions in the music industry, revealing that his ultimate dream is to build a musical legacy greater than that of legendary highlife icons Daddy Lumba and Amakye Dede.
The “Angela” hitmaker made the remarks during an appearance on the Late Afternoon Show on May 18, 2026, where he reflected on his career journey, achievements and future aspirations within the music industry.
Despite becoming one of the country’s most successful contemporary artists over the past few years, Kuami Eugene admitted that he still believes he has a long way to go before reaching the level attained by the all-time music legends.
“I’m not where I want to be at all. I still think I’m nowhere close to Daddy Lumba or Amakye Dede. I feel like I’m still in my preamble, like I’ve only just started,” he stated.
According to the singer, his constant desire to improve and achieve more is what continues to push him to remain hardworking, creative and competitive in the industry.
Kuami Eugene explained that although he has won several awards and produced numerous hit songs, he still approaches music with the mentality of a young artist trying to establish himself.
“I still see myself as a New Artist of the Year. I make music as though I’ve just entered the industry,” he said.
The Lynx Entertainment star further disclosed that his ultimate objective is not only to match the achievements of the country’s music legends but to exceed them and leave behind a lasting legacy for future generations.
“I want to go beyond that level,” he added while discussing the influence and impact of Daddy Lumba’s legendary music career.
Kuami Eugene also spoke emotionally about the overwhelming reactions and tributes that followed the reported passing of Daddy Lumba, describing the highlife legend as the equivalent of global music icon Elvis Presley.
“When Lumba passed, even white people travelled here. That’s our own Elvis Presley,” he remarked.
The singer noted that witnessing the enormous respect, recognition and global attention surrounding Daddy Lumba’s career inspired him to focus even more seriously on building a timeless musical catalogue.
According to him, the reality that musicians will not remain active forever motivates him to continuously write, record and produce songs that can stand the test of time.
“That’s why I keep writing and producing so many songs. I’m doing my best because we won’t be here forever,” he explained.
Kuami Eugene concluded by stressing that every musician has a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the growth of Ghana’s music industry before leaving the stage.
“Before we leave this world, we must all play our part,” he said.
Since breaking into the mainstream music scene, Kuami Eugene has established himself as one of Ghana’s leading Afrobeats and highlife musicians with hit songs including “Wish Me Well,” “Open Gate,” “Angela,” “Monica,” and “Confusion.”
Over the years, he has won several major awards locally and internationally, including Artist of the Year at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, while also earning recognition for his songwriting and production abilities.
