In a renewed show of grassroots commitment, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as Protozoa, has unveiled a bold initiative to support Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in his constituency.
The Member of Parliament for Suhum announced the establishment of a STEM Educational Support Fund during community celebrations in Supresu and Kofigya on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
The fund, according to Bekoe, is designed to provide financial assistance to brilliant but needy students within the Suhum Constituency, with the aim of eliminating economic barriers by pursuing STEM education.
The initiative, he emphasized, aligns with the government’s broader national development agenda to promote innovation and technological advancement through science education.
This announcement was made in the course of two major events that brought the MP into close interaction with his constituents—the Easter celebration and one-year anniversary durbar of the Chiefs and Elders of Supresu, and the annual Kogyafest Homecoming organized by the traditional leadership of Kofigya.
Both occasions served as community gatherings to celebrate culture, reflect on development, and foster unity among natives and residents of Suhum.
At both durbars, Bekoe seized the opportunity to address pressing social concerns, notably the rise of opioid abuse among Ghanaian youth.
He expressed grave concern over the trend and revealed plans to launch a sensitization campaign that will include community symposiums and educational outreach.
He called on traditional authorities, parents, and civil society to collaborate in combating the menace before it spirals beyond control.
Reflecting on his parliamentary contributions, the MP recounted his interventions on the floor regarding the public health threat of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), as well as queries he directed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed at strengthening Ghana’s diplomatic resilience and territorial integrity.
Constituents used the festive gatherings to draw the MP’s attention to development challenges, including poor road networks, inadequate school infrastructure, insufficient waste management systems, and erratic telecommunications coverage.
Frank Asiedu Bekoe acknowledged these issues and pledged to leverage both parliamentary channels and state institutions to pursue timely interventions.
Traditional leaders, including Osabarima Aye Kofi Opare, Chief of Suhum, lauded the MP’s accessibility, responsiveness, and genuine commitment to community development.
They praised his STEM fund as a visionary step towards equipping future generations with the tools to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
