In a proactive effort to prevent the outbreak of cholera and other diseases, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, Member of Parliament for Suhum, led a massive clean-up exercise in Suhum on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
The initiative, which focused on desilting gutters, sweeping streets, and disposing of waste, was widely embraced by residents, chiefs, and other stakeholders.
Cholera, a bacterial infection caused by contaminated food or water, is a significant public health concern in Ghana.
According to health experts, clogged gutters and poor sanitation can contribute to the outbreak and spread of the disease.

By cleaning the gutters and promoting environmental cleanliness, Asiedu Bekoe popularly called Protozoa and the residents of Suhum are taking a crucial step in preventing the outbreak of cholera and other diseases.
The clean-up exercise was not just about removing dirt and debris from the streets; it was also about promoting communal responsibility and sustainable development.
Addressing journalists, Asiedu Bekoe emphasized the importance of a clean environment in preventing diseases, improving sanitation, and enhancing the overall well-being of Suhum residents.
He also announced plans to introduce waste management initiatives and sanitation education programs in schools and marketplaces.
The success of the clean-up exercise was evident in the widespread participation of residents.
The clean-up exercise was undertaken by a diverse group of participants, including Security Agencies, Chiefs, youth, students, political parties, artisans, taxi drivers, and many others.
