Popular Ghanaian social media commentator and blogger Abdul Gafaru Sani, widely known as Webkid or WebkidAfrika, has been granted bail by the Accra High Court after spending more than six weeks in custody over allegations of publishing false information and offensive online content targeting award-winning dancehall artist Stonebwoy and members of his family.

The High Court’s decision to grant bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 marks a significant development in a case that has generated widespread public debate about social media accountability, freedom of expression, and the legal consequences of online publications.

Webkid, a Tema-based salesman and social media influencer who resides at Community One, Site Two, was arrested on May 7, 2026, following complaints regarding content he allegedly shared on his social media platforms.According to court records, prosecutors accuse the blogger of using his X account, to publish material considered false, offensive and capable of causing public fear and disorder.

The case has attracted considerable attention due to the involvement of celebrated musician Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy, who is listed as the complainant in the matter. The development came as a surprise to many followers of the case, particularly after earlier public comments from members of Stonebwoy’s team appeared to distance the musician from the arrest.
Stonebwoy’s Public Relations Officer, Vida Adutwumwaa, previously maintained that the musician did not personally orchestrate the arrest of the blogger.

“It is not in Stonebwoy’s power to cause the arrest of anybody. All we saw was that there was a court order and the guy was picked up,” she stated.

According to prosecutors, Webkid initially faced four charges related to the publication of alleged false news and offensive conduct.
However, as investigations progressed, the number of charges reportedly increased from four to six, indicating that authorities uncovered additional matters requiring legal scrutiny.

Details of the specific publications forming the basis of the charges have remained a subject of public discussion, with supporters of the blogger arguing that the matter raises broader questions about online commentary and digital rights.

Legal representatives for Webkid have indicated that the case remains active and continues to evolve as court proceedings progress.
A hearing scheduled for June 18, 2026, was unable to proceed after the presiding judge was unavailable. As a result, the matter was adjourned to June 22, 2026, prolonging the period of uncertainty surrounding the case.
Beyond the courtroom, the proceedings have attracted significant attention from members of the entertainment industry and social media community.

One of the most notable moments occurred when dancehall musician Shatta Wale made a highly publicized appearance at the Accra High Court in a show of solidarity with Webkid. The self-styled Dancehall King arrived at the court premises dressed in a light teal Nike tracksuit, dark sunglasses and a face mask, drawing large crowds of supporters, bloggers and members of the public.

His arrival sparked excitement among fans, many of whom gathered outside the court chanting and cheering as he entered the premises. The appearance was widely interpreted as a public demonstration of support for the detained blogger and further amplified public interest in the case.
