Efforts by the Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, to improve access to quality healthcare within the constituency have recorded another significant milestone following the successful completion of eye surgeries for a second batch of beneficiaries under his free eye care intervention programme.

The initiative, which is being implemented through a partnership involving the Columbia Union Conference in the United States, the Ghana Adventist Health Services (GAHS), and a team of specialist medical professionals from the SDA Valley View Hospital, seeks to provide life-changing surgical treatment for residents suffering from various eye conditions that threaten their vision and quality of life.

According to organisers of the programme, all beneficiaries in the second phase of the intervention have successfully undergone surgery and are currently recovering well under medical supervision.

The development marks another major step in the ongoing effort to reduce preventable blindness and visual impairment among residents of the Weija-Gbawe Constituency.
The eye surgery programme forms part of a broader healthcare agenda championed by Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib since assuming office as Member of Parliament.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring that vulnerable residents who may not have the financial means to access specialized eye care services receive the treatment they need without cost.Organisers noted that beyond restoring sight, the programme is helping to restore dignity, independence, and economic opportunities to beneficiaries who had struggled with deteriorating vision for years.

Many recipients are expected to regain the ability to work, support their families, and actively participate in community life following their recovery.

Speaking on the success of the latest phase of the programme, Jerry Ahmed Shaib expressed satisfaction with the positive impact the initiative continues to have on residents of the constituency.

He stressed that access to quality healthcare remains a fundamental necessity and not a privilege reserved for only those who can afford expensive medical treatment. According to him, the partnership with international and local healthcare institutions demonstrates the importance of collaboration in addressing critical healthcare challenges and expanding access to specialized medical services for underserved communities.

The Weija-Gbawe MP further indicated that the programme is part of a long-term commitment to improving healthcare outcomes within the constituency and ensuring that residents receive timely medical interventions capable of transforming their lives.

He expressed optimism that subsequent phases of the initiative would enable many more residents to benefit from life-changing eye surgeries and other healthcare interventions designed to improve the welfare of constituents.
