Over the weekend, as couples and friends celebrated Valentine’s Day across Accra, the Ghana Health Service in partnership with the Ghana HIV and AIDS Network (GHANET) took the opportunity to promote love through health at the West Hills Mall.
The event combined the spirit of the holiday with public health awareness, encouraging attendees to prioritize both their relationships and their well-being.
Organizers provided free HIV testing services to the public, enabling individuals to know their status in a safe and supportive environment.

In addition, attendees were given HIV self-test kits and condoms, tools aimed at empowering people to make informed choices and adopt safer sexual practices.
These efforts are part of broader national strategies to reduce HIV transmission and promote sexual health education across the country.
The initiative also highlighted the importance of regular testing and preventive measures, reinforcing the message that love and care extend beyond relationships to personal health.
Health officials at the event emphasized that knowing one’s HIV status is a critical step toward protecting oneself and others, particularly in a country where awareness and prevention remain essential in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The public turnout was encouraging, with many participants expressing appreciation for the opportunity to access free testing and educational resources while celebrating Valentine’s Day.

This collaboration between Ghana Health Service and GHANET reflects ongoing efforts to integrate health awareness into community events, making HIV testing more accessible, destigmatized, and part of everyday life in Ghana.
