Man United New Handler Sparkles With Win Over Arsenal

Manchester United’s growing revival under Michael Carrick gathered serious momentum on Sunday night as a dramatic late strike from Matheus Cunha secured a thrilling 3–2 Premier League victory over leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The result not only underlined United’s renewed tactical identity but also tightened an already tense title race at the top of the table.

The contest was framed by contrasting narratives.

Arsenal came into the fixture leading the Premier League, seeking to steady their title charge after a series of frustrating draws.

United, on the other hand, were riding a wave of confidence following a statement 2–0 win over Manchester City, with Carrick’s pragmatic but fluid approach — increasingly dubbed “Carrick Ball” — beginning to draw plaudits.

The home side started with authority, dominating possession and pinning United deep in their own half.

Arsenal’s early pressure told midway through the first half when Jurrien Timber’s aggressive run forced a mistake from Lisandro Martínez, who inadvertently turned the ball into his own net to give the Gunners a deserved lead.

Mikel Arteta’s side continued to control the tempo, creating several openings but failing to extend their advantage.

United, however, showed patience and composure, refusing to be overrun. Just before the interval, they capitalised on a rare Arsenal lapse.

A defensive error from Martin Zubimendi allowed Bryan Mbeumo to pounce, producing a clinical finish to level the score and swing the momentum heading into halftime.

The visitors emerged from the break with renewed belief and stunned the Emirates when Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu put United ahead.

His speculative 20-yard left-footed half-volley initially caused confusion, but a VAR review confirmed the ball had come off his hip legally before crossing the line, silencing the home crowd and handing United a 2–1 lead.

Arsenal pushed hard for a response, committing numbers forward as the game opened up, but that urgency ultimately left space at the back. With the match drifting toward a tense conclusion, Matheus Cunha delivered the decisive moment of quality.

The Brazilian forward picked up the ball, glided past Gabriel with confidence and fired a precise shot into the bottom corner, sealing a memorable away victory.

The goal sparked wild celebrations among the travelling United supporters and a rare emotional release from Carrick, who punched the air in celebration after maintaining a calm presence on the touchline for most of the evening.
