In a move aimed at easing the economic burden on transport operators, the Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency in the Eastern Region, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as Protozoa, has donated free fuel to over six hundred commercial motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle (Pragyia) riders within the constituency.

The intervention, which comes during a period of rising fuel costs and financial strain, forms part of the MP’s ongoing support initiatives targeted at key informal sector workers.
The exercise, organised under the auspices of the Office of the MP, drew a large turnout of riders from various transport unions across Suhum.
Many beneficiaries reportedly arrived early at the distribution centres, highlighting both the scale of interest and the pressing economic challenges facing operators in the sector.
Each rider received fuel valued at GH¢60 to support their daily operations.
The MP described the response as overwhelming and indicative of the relevance of the intervention.
He explained that the initiative was informed not only by the increasing cost of fuel but also by the important role Okada and Pragyia riders play in local transportation and community safety.
According to him, beyond facilitating movement, these riders often serve as first responders in emergencies and contribute to security within communities.
He also used the occasion to encourage the riders to maintain discipline and professionalism in their work, urging them to uphold good conduct while delivering their services.
He emphasized that responsible behaviour would further strengthen their role and reputation within the constituency.
The gesture was warmly received by the beneficiaries, who expressed appreciation to the MP for what they described as a timely intervention.
Many riders noted that the rising cost of fuel has significantly reduced their profit margins, making such support critical to sustaining their livelihoods.
