Ghanaian media personality Cynthia Tima Yeboah, popularly known as Tima Kumkum, has disclosed that her second marriage ended in separation on April 1, 2025, revealing for the first time how she struggled to explain the development to her children.
The television personality made the revelation during an emotional interview with actress and television host Nikki Samonas on Joy Prime, where she became tearful while recounting the events surrounding the collapse of her marriage and its effect on her family.
Tima said the separation was deliberately kept away from the public for more than a year, with only people close to the couple aware that they were no longer living together.
According to her, her husband left their family home on April 1, 2025, but she initially chose not to tell the children that their father had left because of the strong relationship they had developed with him.
She told children their father had travelled.
Before entering the marriage, Tima said she had spent about seven years raising her children as a single mother.
She explained that when she eventually remarried, her children welcomed her husband and became attached to him to the extent that they began calling him “daddy.”
That bond made the eventual separation particularly difficult for her to explain.
Tima recalled that after her husband left the home, her daughter repeatedly asked about his whereabouts.
“When he left home, my girl in the morning, ‘Mommy, where is daddy?’ Initially, I lied that he had travelled.”
She said she maintained that explanation for approximately six months, attempting to shield the children from the reality of the marital breakdown.
However, as time passed, she concluded that continuing to conceal the situation was no longer appropriate and eventually sat the children down to explain what had happened.
According to Tima, she told them that she and their father were experiencing difficulties and that the future of the relationship would depend on whether those problems could be resolved.
Why she kept the separation private
Tima’s decision to remain silent publicly was deliberate.
She explained that people within their immediate circle had known about the separation since it happened, but she did not want the private difficulties surrounding her marriage to become a subject of public discussion.
The media personality also declined to disclose the specific circumstances that led to the separation, indicating that some matters concerning the marriage were too private to be discussed publicly.
She acknowledged that neither she nor her husband entered the marriage anticipating that it would end, making the eventual separation particularly painful.
Her emotional account also highlighted the difficulty of dealing with the breakdown of a relationship while simultaneously trying to protect children from its consequences.
Estranged husband remains involved in child’s life
Despite the end of the marriage, Tima Kumkum spoke positively about her estranged husband’s continued role as a father.
She revealed that he remains involved in their child’s life and continues to contribute to the child’s education by paying school fees.
The disclosure suggests that although the relationship between the couple has broken down, they have maintained a level of cooperation around their responsibilities as parents.
