Healthcare delivery in the Volta Region has received a major boost following the official handover of a newly expanded Accident and Emergency (A&E) Block at the Ho Teaching Hospital by the MTN Ghana Foundation under its Save a Life initiative.
The upgraded emergency facility, which significantly enhances the hospital’s capacity to handle critical cases, is equipped with 35 beds, modern medical equipment, and an elevator, designed to improve the speed and efficiency of emergency medical response.
The project forms part of MTN’s broader commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Ghana and supporting life-saving medical interventions.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr Hintermann K.K. Mbroh described the A&E department as “the door to the hospital,” emphasizing its critical role in receiving and stabilizing patients in urgent conditions.
He expressed profound appreciation to the MTN Ghana Foundation for supporting the expansion, noting that the initiative will help ensure that the hospital can respond more effectively to emergency cases across the region.
The Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, Adwoa Wiafe, urged health professionals at the facility to ensure that the investment translates into improved patient care.
She stressed that the true impact of the project would only be realized if patients who pass through the emergency unit receive timely, compassionate, and professional medical attention.
Also addressing the gathering, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, commended MTN for its continued investment in Ghana’s health sector. He described the project as a demonstration of how private sector partnerships can strengthen public healthcare systems.
The Minister further appealed to the company to consider supporting the hospital with additional facilities to further improve healthcare delivery in the region.
The handover ceremony highlighted MTN Foundation’s growing role of corporate social responsibility in the health sector. Through initiatives such as the Save a Life programme, the MTN Ghana Foundation has invested in healthcare projects across the country, including the construction and refurbishment of medical facilities aimed at improving access to quality healthcare.
Officials at the event noted that the expanded A&E block is expected to significantly reduce emergency response times, improve patient management, and enhance overall healthcare outcomes for patients in the Volta Region and neighboring areas.
