Akyem Abuakwa Queen Mothers Pay Tribute To Rebecca Akufo-Addo For Support

The Queen Mothers of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council, led by the Okyehemaa, Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua, paid a courtesy call on former First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo in Accra on Wednesday, April 17, 2025.

The visit was a gesture of appreciation for Mrs. Akufo-Addo’s enduring support to the association and her continued advocacy for women and children’s welfare in Ghana.

The high-powered delegation of traditional leaders highlighted their gratitude for the significant contributions made by the former First Lady through her non-profit organization, the Rebecca Foundation.

Chief among these was the donation of a bus to the Akyem Abuakwa Queen Mothers’ Association, which has since played a vital role in enhancing their mobility and organizational outreach.

During the visit, discussions focused on the collective goal of promoting the development of women and children across the region and the country at large.

The Queen Mothers and Mrs. Akufo-Addo shared ideas on how to further improve access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, particularly in rural communities.

Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua praised Mrs. Akufo-Addo for her leadership during her time as First Lady and for engaging in national development even after leaving office.

She acknowledged the importance of partnerships between traditional authorities and foundations like the Rebecca Foundation in tackling persistent social issues.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo, in response, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting women and children.

She emphasized the need for continued collaboration between government, traditional leaders, and civil society to create lasting change.

The Rebecca Foundation, established during Akufo-Addo’s tenure as First Lady, has spearheaded several initiatives over the years, including the construction of libraries, health facilities, and programs that empower women through vocational training and financial support.

The visit concluded with renewed commitments to deepening partnerships and sustaining efforts to uplift marginalized communities, especially through the lens of culture, tradition, and community-led development.
