The ongoing legal tussle between the late legendary musician Daddy Lumba’s first wife, Akosua Serwaa, and his alleged second wife, Odo Broni, has taken a deeply emotional turn following revelations from Akosua Serwaa’s lawyer, William Kusi.
In a recent interview, Kusi detailed the personal and financial hardships his client endured during her marriage to the late musician, painting a picture of sacrifice, heartbreak, and an enduring quest for justice.
The Woman Behind the Legend
Before the fame, glamour, and controversies, Akosua Serwaa was Daddy Lumba’s pillar of support during his early music career in Germany.
The two met and married at a time when the musician was struggling to establish himself.
Together, they welcomed children and lived modestly abroad, sharing the dream of building a better life.
However, according to her lawyer, their marriage took a tragic turn when Daddy Lumba returned to Ghana, leaving Serwaa behind in Germany with their infant child.
“When Lumba left for Ghana, their last-born was still a baby,” Kusi revealed. “My client had to take out a loan of 100,000 Deutsch Marks (about 51,000 euros) to survive and care for their child.”
The lawyer said the loan, which was initially meant to support the family’s upkeep, has become a lifelong burden. Now 62 years old, Serwaa reportedly continues to work to pay off the debt — a stark contrast to the luxurious life many associated with being married to one of the most celebrated musicians.
A Life of Sacrifice and Silence
Kusi’s emotional account described how Akosua Serwaa toiled alone for years while her husband’s fame grew in Ghana.
“She was breastfeeding while another woman took him away,” he lamented. “She has been deprived for all these years, and now that the man has passed away, they still want to deny her recognition as his lawful wife. She cannot agree to that.”
The lawyer insisted that Serwaa’s decision to seek legal redress is not driven by bitterness but by a desire for justice and recognition.
“All she wants is for the truth to be acknowledged,” he stated.
The Legal Showdown
The conflict erupted after Akosua Serwaa filed a lawsuit on October 3, 2025, against Odo Broni, the head of Daddy Lumba’s family, and Transitions Funeral Home, challenging the announced funeral arrangements for the late singer.
Court documents indicate that Serwaa is seeking official recognition as Daddy Lumba’s legitimate wife, arguing that her marriage to the late musician was never legally dissolved.
Her lawyer maintains that under Ghanaian law, a marriage contracted under the ordinance can only be dissolved by a court, not through customary rites.
Serwaa’s suit also challenges the recognition of Odo Broni, born Priscilla Ofori, as a legal spouse.
She contends that Odo Broni was merely a partner and should not be accorded the same legal status as a wife.
The Fosu Family’s Response
In a swift rebuttal, lawyers representing the Fosu Royal Family of Parkoso and Nsuta, to which Daddy Lumba belonged, have dismissed Akosua Serwaa’s claims.
A statement signed by Fati Ali-Yallah of Baba Jamal & Associates declared that the family recognises Odo Broni as the rightful wife of the late singer.
The letter further accused Akosua Serwaa of abandoning Daddy Lumba during his ill health, alleging that she “refused to relocate to Ghana to care for him” and had performed customary rites to dissolve the marriage.
The family’s legal team also warned that all of the musician’s properties form part of his estate, which will be managed jointly by the family and his children until the appropriate legal processes are completed.
Calls for Calm and Settlement
Meanwhile, Collins Owusu Amankwah, the coordinator of Daddy Lumba’s funeral committee, has appealed to Akosua Serwaa to consider an out-of-court settlement to prevent public embarrassment.
He clarified that no injunction has yet been placed on the funeral, urging all parties to exercise restraint and decorum.
